Web Banner Design that’s Practical and Classy

Web banner design is probably the most inconsistent field of web design. While most companies are determined to have an attractive, profitable website, many show little concern for the quality of their web banners. It’s a real shame because those companies are really just throwing their marketing budget down the drain. Let’s take a look at how to create a web banner design that’s practical and classy.

A practical web banner design makes it easy for the customer to indentify your product and click for more information. The most important thing is to include a big, bright call-to-action that pleads CLICK ME! Though not necessarily so bluntly. This is to let the customer know that there’s more information at hand should they want it, and of course to encourage them to click. If you have a particularly strong logo you want to show-off, then use that as your call-to-action.
Another practical element involves file size, more specifically minimizing it. By minimizing your file size you can be sure to avoid long, boring loading times. Keep the size down by ditching complex features like sound.
Text is an important element of your banner. Make it as concise as possible and be up front about the products and services you are offering. Long winded or vague banners don’t generate conversions. Get in touch with your demographic; for example if you’re selling to kids then you need to learn to ‘get down with the kids.’
Classy banner design shows the utmost respect for the customers. It might sound crazy but you should even give them the option to close your banner if they want to. Classy design does not include tricking the customer into clicking by disguising your banner as something it isn’t; for example a user sees a banner inviting him play whack-a-mole with his cursor, he clicks on the mole and gets redirected to a site trying to buy his organs. This is not classy!
